The Jacksonville Jaguars come to Nashville to take on the Tennessee Titans in a key week 17 AFC South matchup on Sunday. The Jaguars have won the division and really have nothing to play for in this game, as they will be the third-seed in the AFC and will host a playoff game in the wild-card round. Tennessee, meanwhile, can win their way into the playoffs with a win on Sunday or get in if both the Chargers and Bills lose on Sunday. Needless to say, they will be looking to have a big game on Sunday.

There is ample hope in the corner of the Titans this week, with some pessimism, as well. Not working in their favor is momentum, as they have blown an 8-4 start and lost three in a row. They look to have hit a wall, as an up-and-coming team that hasn't quite been able to get over the hump. But in their favor is a week two 37-16 win over the Jaguars in Jacksonville and the fact that these teams have a very divergent outlook for this game. After all, while Tennessee is playing for their playoff lives, the Jags are just working on different stuff, while resting most of their big dogs.

Tennessee has hit the skids. In the fourth quarter at home against the Rams, they took a 23-20 fourth-quarter lead, before the Rams quickly answered and held onto the lead. We've seen Marcus Mariota not playing his best football in recent weeks. The run-game hasn't really established much of a foothold. Before, with DeMarco Murray (doubtful), Derrick Henry, and Mariota, the ground-game was a big part of the offensive success. They need it to thrive. Aerially, things haven't clicked that well. Both Delanie Walker and Rishard Matthews have 788 yards, with Eric Decker and Corey Davis chipping in. It just hasn't taken flight as some suspected.

The Tennessee defense has also had its issues of late. A lot of different things have happened and not all of them good. Against the run, which was a strong-suit, they didn't look too strong against the Rams. A playmaking element was making up for their lack of coverage, but the big plays have come less frequently as of late. They need Wesley Woodyard, Brian Orakpo, Derrick Morgan, and Jurrell Casey to get after quarterbacks, get some picks from Kevin Byard and the like. They haven't been horrible, but more often than not as of late, they've been taking up space.

Tennessee, however, has shown that even with the divergent motivation, nothing is easy for them right now. And we've seen urgency not matched with urgent play from time to time in spots like this. You might expect them to take care of business and win the game, but can you really expect them to thrive in a spot like this? And just because Jacksonville might be sitting some guys doesn't mean they'll be phoning it in, either.

For Jacksonville, it's been a great season. Last week was not a good look in a 44-33 loss to the 49ers. The defense was not the defense we have grown accustomed to seeing this season. And while the Jacksonville offense continued to shine, some turnovers were also costly. Blake Bortles threw three picks, one of which was returned for a TD. Getting Leonard Fournette working his way to full-health was important and he ran for a TD. Despite his mistakes, Bortles was again prolific on 382 yards through the air. WR Keelan Cole continues to shine and has been massive with most of Jacksonville's top receiving talent shelved with injuries. Despite the loss on Sunday, their growing aerial flair gives this offense another dimension and if Fournette continues to shine as he did earlier in the season, they could be hard to stop.

We'll see how the Jaguars' defense handles this spot. Dominant all season, they faltered badly on Sunday, their worst game since they lost to this very Titans team earlier in the season. They probably don't want to enter the postseason on a bad run of games. That could make their approach here a bit different. It's been a defense that has been awfully-stout—the top-ranked pass defense in the league. They've given up an average of less than 17 points a game. Tennessee will still have to work, as it's a deep defense with a lot of guys looking for time who can't help but try hard.

A lot of things are concerning for the Titans in this game. I think Jacksonville might be more on-point than some think, not wanting to go into the playoffs on such a bad run. That's accentuated by how badly they played against the Titans earlier in the season. Combine that with the bad momentum the Titans have developed and how they're playing their worst football in December, and it's not easy to take the Titans right now. I'm going to take the points.
