The Philadelphia Eagles take on the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday in a big NFC matchup from the LA Coliseum. This features two of the leading contenders in the conference as far as W-L records go. The Eagles saw their 9-game winning streak ended on Sunday Night Football in a 24-10 road-loss to the Seattle Seahawks. They look to bounce back this week, but in another tricky road spot against the Rams. On Sunday, the Rams beat the Cardinals in a nice 32-16 road-win, boosting their record to 9-3. In terms of standings and overall prestige and confidence, this stands out as an important week 14 matchup.

Even as the Eagles were getting off to a 9-1 start, this part of the season loomed as the real test. They are in the midst of a 5-game stretch where they are on the road four times. It started off well enough, but there were signs of fraying on Sunday night, albeit in a difficult road-spot against a good Seattle team. This season has seen teams on big rolls reverse course. That's why it's important for the Eagles to perform strongly this week. It would have been better for the Rams if the Eagles had beaten the Seahawks. Eager to keep the bleeding at a minimum, the Eagles will be revved-up for this one.

The Eagles' offense had a strange night in Seattle. On one hand, they were prolific with 425 yards of offense. Carson Wentz threw for 348 yards and they even ran the ball effectively at times, though a pick and lost fumble were costly. Nelson Agholor had a huge 141 yards and a TD. Alshon Jeffery had some decent catches. They converted 8 of 16 third downs. Somehow, that all equaled a mere ten points of scoring, including only three points going into the fourth quarter. There were some penalties, key sacks, and two turnovers, but the ten points was a real letdown for the second-highest scoring offense in the league. They face another tough road defense this week and will need to find the right answers and get back to what they had been doing all season.

The Philadelphia defense wasn't at its best on Sunday night. The offense didn't help by putting Seattle in some advantageous situations. The "D" allowed just over 300 yards of total offense, though unlike the Eagles, the Seahawks made the most of it in the red-zone. The defense didn't get any turnovers and wasn't able to make a bunch of big plays as they have been doing in previous weeks. Brandon Graham was big up-front and had 1.5 sacks, with linebackers Mychal Kendricks and Nigel Bradham their typically-active selves in the middle. A team is afforded the chance to lose, so it's hard to choose now as a time to be critical of the Eagles' defense, but they look to be better in key situations this coming week.

The Rams have looked sharp after a one-sided loss to the Vikings three weeks ago. They came back and scored a nice win against the Saints, before beating the Cardinals conclusively on the road on Sunday. They have now won 6 out of 7 and have a one-game lead over Seattle in the NFC West at 9-3. Against the Cardinals on Sunday, they got big plays on both sides of the ball to secure the easy win. More times than not as of late, both sides of the ball have been solid and they'll need to be this week as they host an irritated Eagles squad. The Rams are in the midst of a 5-week stretch were they are facing the Vikings, Saints, Cardinals, Eagles, and Seahawks. We'll see how they hold up.

On Sunday, the offense didn't need to be great for the Rams, as they got a huge assist from the other side of the ball. Jared Goff was decent with 220 yards and two touchdowns, though he did throw a pick. Todd Gurley had 74 yards on the ground and 84 yards receiving. WR Cooper Kupp continues to grow as a rookie in this offense, while WR Sammy Watkins caught a TD pass, his 6th with only 31 catches this season. TE Gerald Everett caught Goff's other TD pass. They enter this week's game as the league's highest-scoring offense—quite a turnaround from recent seasons.

The Rams defense has started to whip itself into top form in recent weeks. They were struggling earlier in the season and the team was carried by the offense. But in their last eight games, they have been allowing an average of less than 15 points a game. In addition to being rigid, they have been making a lot of plays in recent weeks. On Sunday, Aaron Donald and Ethan Westbrooks were both big with two sacks apiece, while Matt Longacre and Robert Quinn also got to the quarterback. They were again tough in the middle with Mark Barron active on the day and Alec Ogletree taking an interception 41 yards for a TD. The secondary made a lot of plays, with Trumaine Johnson, John Johnson, III., and LaMarcus Joyner having good days. Joyner also had an interception and returned in 46 yards.

This is a pairing of the league's two top-scoring offenses. They are also facing tough defenses, so it might not be the shootout some are anticipating. It seems like this is a spot where people could overlook the Rams. They have completely turned around their offense and their defense is playing very well as of late. Granted, the Eagles are eager to not relinquish their momentum, which a loss here would indicate. I still see the Rams getting it done in a close one at the Coliseum.
