The Seattle Seahawks come down south to face the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium on Monday Night Football in week ten action from Santa Clara. Everything is going swimmingly for the Niners, as they have taken the league by storm with an 8-0 start to the season. They didn't cover the spread in a competitive game with the Cardinals last Thursday, but now come off the long week looking to do more damage within their own division. The Seahawks, meanwhile, look to show they're still a factor in the NFC West and all signs point to the affirmative. On Sunday, they prevailed against Tampa in overtime, 40-34. Russell Wilson threw five touchdowns and despite giving up the lead late, they were able to get it done in extra-time.

The Niners failed to notch their 6th cover of the season last week in a TNF win over Arizona, 28-25. But they won and that's what really matters to them and they did it on the road against a rising divisional team. After playing three of their last four games away from home, the 8-0 Niners now get three straight games at home starting here, as they can really dig in and start putting more touches on what they're hoping is a championship run. Against the Cardinals, we may not have seen the sharpest Niners' squad that we've seen all season, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. But there is a lot to like on this sideline and it's really coming together nicely.

On Thursday, San Francisco QB Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 317 yards and four touchdowns on 28-for-37 passing. Despite all the 49ers' success, Garoppolo's numbers haven't been that great, but he had a big night. It was a great sign to see him connecting with new 49er Emmanuel Sanders, who had 112 yards and a TD. George Kittle and Dante Pettis also caught TD throws. Matt Breida had a good day on the ground, with dangerous Tevin Coleman also chipping in. It's a pretty good offense that is coming around, defining roles, and boasting of a lot of depth with a big cast of playmakers.

The 25-point total allowed by the SF defense on Thursday was a season-high. We saw them giving up some big plays, both in the air and on the ground. It didn't look like the typical Frisco "D" with new Cardinal Kenyan Drake putting up over 100 yards on the ground, with some big aerial plays along the way. In the previous four games, this defense had allowed a combined 23 points. Though Dee Ford and DeForest Buckner both had sacks, the pass-rush was a bit muted and they had no turnovers. Still, this a unit that has both been stout, while making its share of game-changing plays. With Nick Bosa making mayhem on the edge, they can really menace opposing quarterbacks with a big cast of difference-makers. The secondary with a refreshed Richard Sherman, Jaquiski Tartt, Jimmie Ward, and others, is great on coverage, with ball hawks and hard-hitters. The Seattle aerial attack will be seeing as good a San Fran secondary as they've seen in quite some time.

Seattle keeps chugging along, putting together wins. They are an imperfect team and as we saw on Sunday, they can give up points and are sometimes vulnerable against the pass. They could be tested in that regard this week in San Francisco. But they still represent San Francisco's most-threatening opponent to date—a good team that is playing good at the time they're facing them. It's also a foe where there is abundant familiarity. But to say things have changed from last season would be an understatement.

Russell Wilson is really becoming an aerial force, putting up big numbers. Sunday saw more of the same, with Wilson tossing five TD passes, including one in OT, with 378 yards on 29-for-43 passing. They suddenly find themselves pretty deep in the WR category and we'll see how Josh Gordon figures into things, as he was just acquired. Tyler Lockett is having a huge season and had 152 yards and two TDs on Sunday. Seldom-used tight end Jacob Hollister hauled in two scores, including the deciding one in OT. DK Metcalf had 123 yards and a TD. Chris Carson had another big game out of the backfield with 105 yards. It's a pretty souped-up offense that could be getting even better moving forward.

The Seattle defense has its share of issues. The front-seven is pretty robust. There is some beef up front and they can show some stiffness against the run and theoretically get after the passer with Jadaveon Clowney, but it's been a bit uneven as far as getting a good pass-rush up-front. The middle makes up for it with Bobby Wagner doing his thing, along with KJ Wright and Mychal Kendricks. The secondary, however, with Akeem King, Shaquill Griffin, Marquise Blair, and others need to do a better job, as this former team strength has deteriorated this season. A waning pass-rush hasn't helped. Injuries haven't helped and getting some guys back could help, as we'll watch the injury reports getting closer to game-time.

It's a great matchup, more reminiscent of some of the great SF-SEA battles we saw when both were near the top of the conference. We see two teams this season who are again contenders and we should see a spirited battle at Levi's. I won't rely on the fact that Seattle may have overcome a harder road to get here, as questioning the 49ers' resolve week after week would seem futile. I still see some matchup components shaking out well for the Seahawks, giving this game a toss-up appeal that makes me inclined to take the points.
