Super Bowl LII Betting Advice

Super Bowl LII Betting Advice

By Loot, NFL Handicapper, Lootmeister.com

The Super Bowl is not just the biggest game in football and in American sports, it's also the biggest day in betting. The action comes fast and heavy for this game, as a lot of people who don't generally bet will make an exception for Super Bowl 52 betting. And it's not the easiest thing to do. The bets offered are so numerous that it's easy for people to get carried away or just not approach it with the most thoughtfulness. We'd like to offer a handful of tips to help make Super Bowl LII a pleasurable betting experience. Take a look!

Don't Get Lost at Sea: The betting landscape for the Super Bowl is unlike any other single event in sports. You can bet on any aspect of the game and even some things that aren't all that connected to the game itself. Some of us know people who get really carried away and bet on every little thing. A friend of mine and I were once at a Super Bowl party with nice civilized people. People were wondering why he was screaming profanities before the game even started. I had to explain to them that he had a grand on the under of how long the Anthem would take and another $1000 on the coin-toss and lost both bets. For those who have little self-control, the Super Bowl can be overwhelming. Don't look at the innumerable bets and use that as license to go hog-wild. Be calculating, have a plan, and keep it fairly straightforward.

Make Multiple Bets: We just got finished telling you to not get lost at sea, now we're saying to make multiple bets. That's contradictory, isn't it? Maybe, but not really. It's perfectly fine to bet as a form of amusement to some extent and part of doing that is not having your eggs all in one basket. The game itself often offers a lot of surprises and it's good to have some action spread around in case one of your bets gets blown out of the water. It doesn't have to be big, but the Super Bowl is the one time where it's OK to be a little adventurous with your wagers. For those of us who did well this NFL season, we don't want to put a dent in those winnings. And for those of us who lost this season, we don't want to make it worse. But that doesn't mean there's not a way to have some fun with it.

Don't Jeopardize the Fun of the Super Bowl: It's one thing if you're alone, but the Super Bowl is usually a somewhat social event and the last thing you need to be doing is sulking around because you're losing a bunch of money. In other words, this is no time to go broke. From a betting standpoint, it's actually one of the toughest times to bet. The line is drum-tight and the juice on the props is pretty steep. It's not easy making a bunch of loot in this game. So don't go crazy. Put yourself in a position where even if most everything goes wrong with your bets, you're still able to enjoy the company of your friends and family.

Listen to Your Inner Voice: The last thing you want to be doing when watching the Super Bowl is to end up saying "I was going to bet that!" This is a good time to listen to your gut. Listen to your instincts. This is a hard game to handicap, especially as we start dealing with the betting minutia—small details within the game. While we want to keep our heads, we don't want to ignore that other part of our betting profile—our sixth sense.

Don't Bet Against Yourself: If you're like us, you will make a handful of different bets on the Super Bowl. When doing so, it's easy to be contradictory to other bets you are making. Put yourself in a position to win each bet you make. In other words, don't bet on Tom Brady having a huge game, then take the "under." Don't bet on two or three Eagles players to have great games and then take the Patriots against the spread. Just make sure your Super Bowl LII bets don't stand in opposition to each other.

Bet your Best Stuff: If you're like a lot of us, your opinions can sometimes run amok. We can be overly-opinionated at times. Once we get in the mode of making picks, that part of our brain can become over-active. We start having an opinion on each and every facet of the game. And when you see how many bets are available for this game, it's easy to see how that can become a problem really fast. We're not saying you have to be ultra-selective, but try to bet on the stuff you feel the strongest about. Super Bowl LII betting should be reserved for the picks you like the most.

Give Yourself a Chance to Make a Big Score: When making your Super Bowl LII wagers, put yourself in a position to collect a big payout. The doesn't mean bet a lot, but entertain some long-shots. If all your bets are long-shots, that's not the ticket. But you should at least bet on something that is a long-shot. It can be a prop bet on a low-key player winning the MVP or a wild and unforeseen point-differential. Maybe a player who doesn't play much will score the first touchdown of the game. There are a lot of different ways to make a big score with little risk. Don't be afraid to throw a few of those bets into the mix.
