Super Bowl LII Matchup Odds and Picks

NFL Super Bowl LII Matchup Odds and Picks

By Loot, NFL Handicapper, Lootmeister.com

Over the years, the kinds of NFL futures bets and prop wagers have risen exponentially. It has gotten to the point where you can bet on every possible matchup in the Super Bowl. That's a lot of ground to cover and the betting for this bet can be fairly frenzied. Let's spend a little time talking about how to approach this bet and some techniques and outlooks we can use.

It's a bet that begs for multiple positions. Sure, you could bet on just one Super Bowl LII matchup, but spreading it around some is what it's all about. And you don't have to take huge stands either. With the vast multitude of choices and possibilities, the odds are so juicy that you can well-afford to spray the bets around a bit. After about the first ten most-probable matchups, the odds jump to 50-to-1. And you can get triple-digits with Super Bowl matchup picks that aren't really even that far-fetched. And for those looking for sheer action, this is one bet that will give you a vested interest in a lot of different teams, lasting the whole season or until that team gets eliminated.

We also like to cover the gamut in terms of odds, as well. We like to put a stake on some of the teams that have rightfully been pegged to do big things this season. Then we also look for teams that a lot of people aren't singling out as potential champions. That could come in the form of an up-and-coming team that might peak ahead of schedule or even a team that was good, but fell on hard times the last season. And then, we like to throw some long-shots in there, as well. You can put favorites like the Patriots with lesser-fancied NFC teams, in addition to the bigger contenders. You can stick favorites together. You can take a middle-of-the-road team and stick him with a semi-favorite. If your mind can imagine it, then it can be bet.

As one could well imagine, listing the odds for each and every possible Super Bowl LII matchup would be too cumbersome. So we just decided to list our favorite picks. Mind you, there will be a lot of them and it might appear wishy-washy or indecisive. However, that's the nature of this bet, which has a lot of similar dynamics to a lottery of sorts. There are so many possibilities within this framework that it would be downright difficult to make too many bets. We don't want to get carried away, but with the odds being offered, it's entirely justifiable to take many different positions. Here are the odds and picks for Super Bowl LII matchups.

Matchups with Favorites: We want to cover a few bases here. The top three favorites from each conference are the Patriots, Steelers, and Raiders from the AFC and the Seahawks, Packers, and Cowboys in the NFC. So we're going to play some matchups involving those teams.

New England Patriots vs. Seattle Seahawks -1400
New England Patriots vs. Green Bay Packers +1715
New England Patriots vs. Dallas Cowboys +1895
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Green Bay Packers +3900
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Seattle Seahawks +4100
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Dallas Cowboys +4300
Oakland Raiders vs. Green Bay Packers +5200
Oakland Raiders vs. Seattle Seahawks +5450
Oakland Raiders vs. Dallas Cowboys +5700

Middle-of-the-Road Favorites: Beneath the top favorites are other contenders, but they're just teams that aren't being fancied by many to become Super Bowl teams this upcoming season. Obviously, with the vast number of different combinations with the more teams chosen, we want to just hone in on a few. And we'll stick those teams with favorites from other conferences, along with a few we can link up together for a potential big payday.

New York Giants vs. New England Patriots +3000
New York Giants vs. Pittsburgh Steelers +7900
New York Giants vs. Oakland Raiders +10500
Kansas City Chiefs vs. New York Giants +15600

Covering the Bases: With these bets, we just want to make sure we don't forget to account for teams that could have a resurgence, despite a tough 2016 season and perhaps even more. Those teams include the Cardinals and Panthers out of the NFC and the Ravens and Bengals out of the AFC.

New England Patriots vs. Carolina Panthers +4175
New England Patriots vs. Arizona Cardinals +4500
Baltimore Ravens vs. Green Bay Packers +11900
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Arizona Cardinals +11900

Baltimore Ravens vs. Carolina Panthers +28500
Cincinnati Bengals vs. Carolina Panthers +36500
Cincinnati Bengals vs. Arizona Cardinals +46500

Up-and-Comers: There are some teams that showed a lot of spunk in the 2016 season or have at least hinted in some way that 2017 could produce some good results. In the event that those teams develop into legitimate contenders ahead of schedule, we'd like to have them accounted for to some extent. We'll put them with favorites from other conferences and with each other. We're going to hone in on teams that were the most improved in 2016, teams like the Dolphins, Titans, and Buccaneers.

Tennessee Titans vs. Green Bay Packers +11900
Tennessee Titans vs. Seattle Seahawks +12500
Tennessee Titans vs. Dallas Cowboys +13100
Miami Dolphins vs. Green Bay Packers +14400
Miami Dolphins vs. Seattle Seahawks +15100
