NFL Tight Ends on New Teams for the 2018 Season

NFL Tight Ends on New Teams for the 2018 Football Season

By Loot, NFL Handicapper, Lootmeister.com

Trey Burton (Chicago Bears): While his numbers didn't blow anyone away in his four seasons with the Eagles, Burton had become a reliable target toward the end of his tenure. In 2017, he had only 23 catches, but five of them went for scores. Maybe he can find a nice role in a completely revamped Bears' aerial attack.

Derek Carrier (Oakland Raiders): Entering his 7th NFL season, Carrier joins the Raiders, where he hopes to catch balls from a quarterback with a very similar name.

Ed Dickson (Seattle Seahawks): This will be Dickson's 9th season after four years with Baltimore and four more with the Panthers. He can step up big, though probably won't be able to match departed Jimmy Graham's overall production.

Eric Ebron (Indianapolis Colts): While productive, he never quite was able to see his career turn over in four seasons with Detroit. If Andrew Luck can return to form, perhaps Ebron can become the weapon the Lions thought he would be when drafting him tenth overall in 2014.

Gavin Escobar (Miami Dolphins): With 30 receptions in five NFL seasons, Escobar is still looking to find a solid role in this league and might be down to his last go-around with Miami in 2018.

Darren Fells (Cleveland Browns): A dangerous, if not overly-consistent performer in his four NFL seasons, Fells comes to Cleveland and looks to find a spot on a new-look Browns' aerial attack.

Jimmy Graham (Green Bay Packers): His three seasons in Seattle were a mixed bag, but he still caught ten touchdowns last season and could prove to be a valuable weapon in Green Bay working with Aaron Rodgers. This will be the ninth NFL season for the 6'7" 31-year old Graham.

Virgil Green (Los Angeles Chargers): Toward the end of his seven-season run with the Broncos, Green had become a more-trusted target. He stays in the AFC West and looks to do what he did in Denver and become a reliable backup.

Marcedes Lewis (Green Bay Packers): Still effective, he caught five touchdowns last year for the Jaguars in his 12th season with the team. With Green Bay needing tight end help, he looks to extract even more juice out of a long career with the Packers.

Sean McGrath (Detroit Lions): After two seasons with the Chargers where he didn't get a ton of play behind Hunter Henry and Antonio Gates, McGrath looks to make a splash in Detroit.

Troy Niklas (New England Patriots): More of a blocking tight end, Niklas comes off of four seasons with the Cardinals and now comes to the AFC, trying to latch on with the Patriots.

Niles Paul (Jacksonville Jaguars): The former Cornhusker showed some nice signs in his six-season run with the Redskins, but ended up a bit lost in the mix. He now joins a Jags team that has a void at this position, opening up an opportunity for a guy like Paul to finally shine.

Logan Paulsen (Atlanta Falcons): Another former Washington tight end, Paulsen enters his 8th NFL season after playing for Chicago and San Francisco the last few seasons. He hasn't made much of an impact lately after some decent seasons with the Redskins and looks to catch on with the Falcons at age 31.

Richard Rodgers (Philadelphia Eagles): Aaron Rodgers' namesake leaves Green Bay after four seasons of varying levels of productivity. He now joins the defending Super Bowl Champion Eagles, who look to fill some voids in this area.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins (Jacksonville Jaguars): This is as good an opportunity as Seferian-Jenkins is going to get. In four seasons, spent with the Bucs and Jets, he has shown some of the talent that made him a second-round pick, but looks to take it to the next level in Jacksonville.

Randall Telfer (Indianapolis Colts): More of a blocker, Telfer is coming off two seasons with the Browns. In 2017, he started 14 games and caught just three balls. He now looks to help an Indy team that looks for a big offensive upturn this season.

Levine Toilolo (Detroit Lions): The former Helix High product did well as a blocking/pass-catching tight end for the Falcons over the last five seasons. He now looks to make his mark in Detroit.

Will Tye (New England Patriots): Still only 26, Tye had an injury last season that almost cost him the entire year. In his only two NFL seasons prior to that, he had shown himself to be a rising young tight end. Perhaps he can rediscover his footing with the Pats in 2018.

Clive Walford (New York Jets): Following two promising seasons to begin his career in Oakland, the former Miami Hurricanes product wasn't used much in 2017. He now looks to become a useful member of the Jets' air-attack.

Ben Watson (New Orleans Saints): In his 14th season, Watson will turn 38 this season, but still managed to catch 61 balls last year, his only season with the Ravens. He rejoins a Saints team where he played from 2013-15. In his last season with Brees, he snagged 74 balls and looks for more of the same this season.

Luke Willson (Detroit Lions): A valuable complimentary piece for the Seahawks over the past five seasons, Willson joins a crowded Detroit tight-end package where he looks to find his role in a new city.
