The Kansas City Chiefs come to FedEx Field to take on the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football. The Chiefs are the only unbeaten team left in the AFC, sitting at 3-0 with three covers to open the season. They were impressive again on Sunday, with a 24-10 road win over the Chargers. They now return to Arrowhead and try to go to 4-0 with The Redskins coming into town. After losing their opener, the Redskins have looked good in winning two in a row. On Sunday night, they beat up the Raiders, 27-10. They look to make it three in a row on MNF in what is a tough road assignment against a good Chiefs team.

The Chiefs have really looked good. Through three weeks, they look to be among the best teams in the league, but three games does not make a season. Still, Kansas City's success is not limited to just this season. They have won 25 of their last 29 games, including 12 straight wins in AFC West. Against the Chargers, we saw the stoutness and playmaking ability of their defense, along with their improved playmaking ability on offense. They look for more of the same at home this week.

Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith has been tremendous this season. His aerial stats were somewhat-subdued against the Chargers on Sunday, but he was still efficient on 16-for-21 passing with two touchdowns. He has completed over 77% of his throws this season with 7 touchdowns and no interceptions. On Sunday, he connected with playmaker Tyreek Hill, who caught a long TD pass among his 77 yards and remains a factor in the return game. What is really taking this offense to new dimensions is rookie back Kareem Hunt. On Sunday, he ran for 172 yards, including a 69-yard touchdown. He already has a big lead among NFL backs in yards and has 6 touchdowns in his first three NFL games, having made a big impact in each of them. Travis Kelce can be inconsistent, but is also a top weapon at tight end. This Chiefs' offense looks like the real deal.

The Chiefs defense had their best game on Sunday, keeping the Chargers off the board for the most part, while also being clutch in the right spots. Some Chargers' drives looked promising until abruptly stopped by the "D." They got good play at the corners, with Terrance Mitchell picking off two balls, with Marcus Peters also notching an interception, along with a 38-yard return. The pass-rush was active, with Justin Houston and Allen Bailey getting to Philip Rivers. They got good play on all levels on Sunday. And when this group allows a lot of yardage and even some scoring drives, they usually save their best for late, exemplified again on Sunday as they kept the home Chargers off the board for the whole second-half of the game.

They might have their hands full with a Redskins team that turned some heads in week three with a big 24-10 win over a 2-0 Oakland team that had looked very good. The offense has turned it around after a rough week one performance, with Kirk Cousins in fine form. Against Oakland, they put up almost 500 yards, holding the Raiders to an anemic 128 total yards, while grounding all their playmakers. The defense held the Raiders to just 7 first downs for the game with zero third down conversions. That's pretty dominant.

Washington got a big showing from Cousins on Sunday, as he threw for 355 yards on 20 for 25 passing, with a lot of big plays along the way. He threw three touchdowns, one to Chris Thompson and the other two to Vernon Davis and former first-round pick Josh Doctson, who is finally showing signs of life after ripping a ball from a defender and taking it to the house. Thompson was huge on the day, as the running back rushed for 38 yards, while catching 6 passes for 150 yards, including a 74-yard touchdown play. The line played well and was pushing back a pretty tough Oakland defensive front.

After collapsing late in week one against Philly, the Redskins' defense has been looking better the past few weeks. It's one thing to dominate an offense, but to hold the Oakland offense to no third down conversions and just 7 first downs, along with 128 yards is a real statement. We saw the Oakland O-line getting a big push in the first few games of the season, but not against Washington, where they were hanging on for their lives against the Redskins and completely unable to spring a run-game. In the middle, Ryan Kerrigan and Zach Brown were big on the day, with Preston Smith adding a sack. The real heroes on the day were the secondary, who held Derek Carr to a paltry 118 yards. Top Oakland receivers Michael Crabtree and Amari Cooper were held to a combined 2 catches and 13 yards. Josh Norman, Bashaud Breeland, DJ Swearinger, and Deshazor Everett were really on-point. And their depth really manifested in the secondary, with Kendall Fuller and Montae Nicholson registering interceptions on the day.

Alas, even a hot Redskins team having to come to Arrowhead could result in a different Washington team from the one we saw on Sunday. But against a Kansas City defense that can be a little leaky, particularly in the secondary, we should see Cousins be able to make some headway. But the Kansas City playmakers look for another feeding frenzy at home and the Redskins defense will also be tested in a big way. I see a well-contested game with Washington doing enough to keep it close enough to cover the spread on MNF.
