Week 5 NFL Lines
Week 5 looks like a pivotal week in the season, with some teams struggling already to keep their seasons afloat, while other teams look to take another step toward contention. Six games this week pair teams from different conferences. Four teams will be off this week on the bye week—the Jacksonville Jaguars, New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks, and Kansas City Chiefs. Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles are coming off the bye.
The NFC's two representatives from last season, the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals are both at 1-3 and in danger of seeing their seasons get away from them a little bit. Carolina has a MNF game against Tampa, while the Cardinals take on the Niners on Thursday Night Football. And the Panthers are still waiting to see if they'll have Cam Newton, who suffered a concussion in their loss to Atlanta.
Some teams are off to a good start—both teams suspected to do well and ones who weren't. The Eagles are 3-0, with Denver and Minnesota the only other unbeaten teams at 4-0. Parity also work the other way with the only winless team through 4 games being the Cleveland Browns. Atlanta is a surprise at 3-1, with the Rams also winning three straight to get there. The Pats fell to 3-1 last week, with the return of Tom Brady this week being a top storyline with New England coming into Cleveland. Also at 3-1 is Seattle, Dallas, Oakland, Houston, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore.
In addition to the Panthers and Cardinals, other teams that some suspected would contend are also struggling. The Bengals are 2-2 after winning last Thursday against the Dolphins, who are now 1-3. The Indianapolis Colts are 1-3 and needing a win. Tampa and New Orleans are 1-3, as are the San Diego Chargers, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, and the disappointing New York Jets. How will this week shake out?
