College Football Betting: The Worst Time to Bet

Betting is betting, right? Well, not exactly. You need a clear head. You need a fresh slate. And in life a lot of things can happen which make it impossible for you to maintain a level head. The worst time to bet on college football is when you are off-center. Winning at this game is hard enough as it is. But some us make it infinitely more difficult by choosing the worst possible time to place wagers.
Look at some other aspects of life. Imagine you got dumped by your woman. Some of us don’t need to imagine it. We’ve been through it. Maybe more than a few times. And one thing we learn is that it can really be devastating. You can try to get through it as poker-faced as you want, but now all women can detect that stench of rejection that all men carry with them for a period of time after being unceremoniously dumped.
You go to the club and get absolutely nowhere with women. A conversation in the checkout line gets all awkward. What are you doing wrong? Well, nothing in particular except that you should wait a little while and let the aura of being a loser wear off a bit. When the scent of rejection radiates through your every pore, there’s nothing you can do except wait it out.
Here’s another example. Say you got in a nasty car wreck. Someone just rammed into you and it wasn’t even your fault. For a while, your driving suffers. You get hyper-sensitive and aware. You’re almost waiting for the ceiling to cave in. You might think you’re exercising more caution, but your lack of confidence is probably putting you at greater risk for a crash.
Look what happens to boxers after they get knocked out. You don’t hear from them for a while. They take a long layoff. They need to let the physical and psychological affects wear off before they can resume fighting. A fighter who was just knocked out is always a question mark--no matter how good they might be. It’s when they are at their most vulnerable. It’s when they are at their most likely to lose.

Take some of these examples and compare them to betting on college football. The least favorable time for you to place wagers are following defeats. And it’s funny--that’s when people really want to take chances, right after a loss or series of demoralizing defeats. You go into a college football Saturday with high hopes, but the majority of your games go south. A lot of people decide to start slugging it out with the bookie, betting on games they would not have otherwise considered--all in the hopes of recouping losses.
But just like the guy at the club trying to pick up women while reeking of rejection, you should call it a night. The worst time to try to pick college football games is when you just lost, especially if you lost in some sort of pronounced or painful fashion. Losing bets is not a good catalyst for making bets. It just can’t be.
Some might have actually seen this work. But big deal--you hit a heads-or-tails coin flip. Anyone can do that. But it would be interesting to see what the won-loss record is on bets that were placed as bail-out attempts after a poor Saturday. The gambling gods generally do not smile on bettors acting out of desperation.
Betting following a slew of losses isn’t the only time when betting is not in your best interest. This is also the case when you are in the midst of domestic discord. There are some guys who can manage to remain somewhat unaffected after arguing with their wife or girlfriend, but if you’re like most of us--your brain is polluted for a while after beefing with your significant other. This is not the time for you to sit down and try to juggle tons of different information. Handicapping college football is too dynamic and takes full focus and concentration. Take a breather from breaking down games. Get back to it when your head is clear. If you argue with your wife or girlfriend and go ahead and make picks anyway, now you have something else to get mad about if you lose. It’s a bad slippery slope. A happy house usually results in better picks.
