2014 NFL Coaching Changes

Coaching Changes for the 2014 NFL Football Season

By Scott, NFL Football Handicapper, Lootmeister.com

Baltimore Ravens: The Ravens hired new offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak, who was let go late last season as Houston's head coach.

Buffalo Bills: With Mike Pettine off to become the new head coach of Cleveland, the Bills have a new defensive coordinator in Jim Schwartz, who is back on his feet after being let go at the end of the season as Detroit's head coach.

Cincinnati Bengals: The Bengals kept head coach Marvin Lewis, but revamped the staff, with a pair of new coordinators, including new offensive coordinator Hue Jackson and defensive coordinator Paul Guenthier.

Cleveland Browns: With the exit of Rob Chudzinski after one season, the Browns hired head coach Mike Pettine, who comes over from Buffalo where he was the defensive coordinator. The Browns also hired new offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, with new defensive coordinator Jim O'Niel filling out the top of the new coaching staff.

Dallas Cowboys: On the heels of a terrible season defensively, the Cowboys hired new defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli, who was defensive line coach last season and has head coaching experience with Detroit. It is unclear what the role will now be for last season's coordinator Monte Kiffin.

Detroit Lions: Only defensive coordinator Guenther Cunningham remains at the top of the coaching staff. The new head coach is Jim Caldwell, with new offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi now in the mix. If that name sounds familiar, it should, as Lombardi is the grandson of NFL giant VInce Lombardi.

Houston Texans: The Texans hired new head coach Bill O'Brien, who moves over from Penn State. O'Brien will also call plays as offensive coordinator, with new defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel joining the fold.

Miami Dolphins: The Dolphins hired a new offensive coordinator in Bill Lazor. This is the first NFL coordinator gig for the 41-year old Lazor, who has been a position coach in the NFL for over a decade.

Minnesota Vikings: With the departure of Leslie Frazier and his staff, Minnesota had a lot of spots to fill. Their new head coach is Mike Zimmer, a defensive guy who has been a coordinator in the NFL dating back to 2000. The Vikings also get a keen offensive mind in new offensive coordinator Norv Turner, who left Cleveland after one season, following a long stretch as the Chargers head coach. The new defensive coordinator is George Edwards, who has held the same position with the Redskins, Florida Gators, and Buffalo Bills.

New York Giants: The Giants hired a new offensive coordinator in Ben McAdoo, who has spent the better part of the last dozen years as a positions coach in the college and pro ranks.

San Diego Chargers: With last year's offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt off to become the new coach of the Titans, the Chargers promoted quarterbacks coach and former Buffalo Bills QB Frank Reich to the offensive coordinator spot.

St. Louis Rams: The Rams have a new defensive coordinator in Gregg Williams--his 4th defensive coordinator gig in the league and his first since the fallout from "Bounty-gate" He was poised to become the Rams DC in 2012, but his suspension ruined that. The timeline worked to bring Williams back and now Jeff Fisher has the man he originally wanted.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Bucs revamped their coaching staff after a terrible season, Their new head coach is former Bears top guy Lovie Smith, who is ready after taking a year off. The new offensive coordinator is longtime Cal coordinator Jeff Tedford, with former Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier taking over as defensive coordinator.

Tennessee Titans: The Titans also revamped their staff, with new head coach Ken Whiesenhunt moving over after a season as a coordinator for the Chargers and being the only head coach to ever get the Cardinals to the Super Bowl. The new offensive coordinator is Jason Michael, with defensive coordinator Ray Horton stepping in--his third defensive coordinator gig. Horton also served under Whisenhunt when both were with the Cardinals.

Washington Redskins: With Mike Shanahan sent packing, the Redskins hired new head coach Jay Gruden, who spent the last three seasons as offensive coordinator for the Bengals. Also joining the staff is offensive coordinator Sean McVay, a 28-year old who was the Redskins tight ends coach for the past 3 seasons, though look for Gruden to play a big hand in the offense.
