Super Bowl XLVIII Player Prop Bets
By Loot, NFL Handicapper, Lootmeister.com
Super Bowl prop bets offer another layer of fun to the Super Bowl experience. It’s a time of the year to have some fun with the betting. By no means do we want to lose a bunch of money this time of year, especially after having to grind so hard during a difficult NFL betting season. The Super Bowl is not a license to go bonkers. At the same time, the idea with prop bets is to have a little fun and hopefully pick up a little extra scratch to pay for the beer and pizzas. Here are some Super Bowl 48 prop wagers that might be worth a tickle:
SUPER BOWL XLVIII SPECIALS - Will Renee Fleming wear gloves when she starts singing US National Anthem?
Yes -200
No +150
SUPER BOWL XLVIII SPECIALS - Will Richard Sherman receive a pass interference penalty in the game?
Yes +150
No -200
Comments and Pick: Back to football. In the postseason and especially the Super Bowl, it practically takes a mugging to get a pass interference call. And Sherman is usually pretty good about straddling the fine line. I’ll say no for -200.
SUPER BOWL XLVIII SPECIALS - Will any player receive a penalty for excessive celebration?
Yes +300
No -500
Comments and Pick: Again, the standards for throwing a flag in the Super Bowl intensify and it would take something quite remarkable to elicit an excessive celebration flag. -500 is a steep price, but put me down for no.
Longest Rush - Marshawn Lynch (SEA)
Over 19½ (-115)
Under 19½ (-115)
Comments and Pick: This may be a game where Lynch has trouble at first, chipping away with small runs, before springing something major. Denver has been tough against the run, but at some point, the seal will break to the tune of a big Lynch run. I’m going over 19.5 at -115.
Total Interceptions - Peyton Manning (DEN)
Over ½ (-180)
Under ½ (+150)
Comments and Pick: Manning has been exceptionally sharp and his receiving crew is a sure-handed one. Against this defense, it’s hard to not picture at least a single pick. Either he will be errant with a throw or a receiver will deflect or bobble a pass while anticipating a massive hit. I’d say over at -180.
Total Receiving Yards - Demaryius Thomas (DEN)
Over 75½ (-115)
Under 75½ (-115)
Comments and Pick: What I like about the over is that it can happen suddenly with a guy like Thomas. At different times this season, including the postseason, Manning has used Thomas consecutively, giving him close to this number on single drives. While Thomas may struggle at times in this game, he will not be completely shut down and should eclipse this number. It still is no gimme against this secondary.
Total Rushing Yards - Montee Ball (DEN)
Over 32½ (-115)
Under 32½ (-115)
Comments and Pick: The rushing yards are going to be hard to come by and though Ball could very well get a nice number of touches, this number may be a lofty goal. It wouldn’t even be completely shocking if their number-one option Knowshon Moreno has trouble getting this number.
Total Rushing Yards - Knowshon Moreno (DEN)
Over 65½ (-115)
Under 65½ (-115)
Comments and Pick: Speaking of Moreno, the running back has enjoyed a very good season in a crossroads-type year. He should be expected to be hungry, though he is coming off rib issues sustained in the Patriots game. This is not the “D” you want to be facing coming off a rib injury. The two week-break should help. Even so, I fancy Moreno more as a short-pass option in this game, as he may have trouble racking up yards against the Seattle front. This is a tough call. Late in the game is the danger-one for the under, especially if the Seattle “D” gets run ragged. The Seahawks usually do a good job of rotating in fresh guys on the front-seven. I’m thinking under.
