Week 2 NFL Lines
For the first time in months, we have an actual result upon which to base our analysis, with week one behind us, as we look ahead to week two. After there being no action for a big chunk of the season, we finally got to see all teams in action. Some teams looked good, some looked bad. Some teams saw new additions make an immediate contribution, while other teams saw their new talent fall flat. In week one, we saw the full spectrum of possibilities.
Week one is a time where our minds can run away from us a little bit. After all, we had nothing on these teams for months and months. A result finally comes down the pike and the urge is to subscribe too much importance to the result. But take a look at first-game results from any season and you'll see the pattern of how getting carried away with a result can be a bad move. Teams hitting the field for the first time in months for a real game is maybe not the best time to do a full appraisal, at least nothing that you etch in concrete.
It's important to temper our analysis this time of the season. We need to realize that a lot is undecided. Week one may have offered a portal into the future. Some week one results could actually become solid hints of what's to come. But there are times throughout the season where a team performs either far above or below the level of play they usually provide. In a one-game window, that's fairly common. So just because that game happens in week one shouldn't give us license to take the story and run with it. If anything, a week one result might not be a terribly strong indicator of what a team is really worth.
